Scene To Music

• Objective: Play a silent scene where players’ emotions are controlled by the music
• Instructions:
  • Two or three improvisers and one accompanist needed
  • The actors must be directly influenced by the music being played
  • The actors can’t speak, but must act in ways emotionally connected to the music
• Example:
  • Singer: “Can I get a suggestion of anything at all?”
  • Audience: “Chainsaw”
  • *Accompanist starts playing upbeat music*
  • *Actor 1 walks around happily*
  • *Accompanist starts playing darker music*
  • *Actor 2 brings out a chainsaw menacingly*
  • *Keep the scene going until some narrative climax occurs*
• Notes:
  • The accompanist should change the music pretty frequently.
  • The actors should “lead with” their emotion and perform actions that resonate with that emotion.
  • The actors will have to fill a lot in, but also be quickly response to music changes.
